Dear Benjamin Banneker Academy for Community Development Families,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! On behalf of the Benjamin Banneker Academy for Community Development (BBACD) PTA/Kinship, we extend our warmest greetings to all new and returning families. We are excited to begin another year of partnership, collaboration, and community-building. Together, we will continue to create a supportive environment where our scholars can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

 

Why We Call Our PTA Kinship

At Benjamin Banneker Academy, we believe that raising and educating our young people is truly a family effort. We chose the name Kinship because it reflects the deep bond we share as parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers, and community members.

Kinship means more than family by blood.  It’s about connection, support, and standing together. Just as kin step in for one another during times of need, our PTA/Kinship exists to strengthen the ties between school and home. It reminds us that every student benefits when the entire community works as one.

 

By calling our PTA “Kinship,” we honor the truth that:

  • Every child belongs to all of us.

  • Every parent, guardian, and caregiver have a voice.

  • Together, we form a circle of support that helps our students succeed.

In short, Kinship is about building a family beyond the home family that is rooted in care, partnership, and the shared commitment to lift up our children.

PTA–Kinship Fundraising Letter

Dear BBACD Families,

We are excited to announce that our PTA–Kinship is hosting a Double Good Virtual Fundraiser! This is a fun and easy way for our community to come together in support of our school while enjoying a delicious treat.

What is Double Good?

Double Good is an award-winning gourmet popcorn company. When you participate, you’ll create your own Pop-Up Store through their app and share it with friends and family. Every purchase helps our school and the best part is:

  • 50% of every sale goes directly back to BBACD PTA–Kinship to support programs, events, and resources for our scholars.
  • Popcorn ships directly to buyers, so there’s no handling, sorting, or delivery required.
  • Prices start at just $11, and the popcorn is truly delicious!
