What Year did You graduate?
I proudly graduated from Benjamin Banneker Academy for Community Development in 2013.
What did you do post-high school?
After graduating high school, I spent a year working in City Hall for then, Councilman Charles
Barron. Simultaneously, I began my academic career at Pace University, majoring in English with a
concentration in Writing and Literature and minoring in Political Science. My time at Pace was
transformative as I honed my skills in organization, creative expression, and networking. These
qualities allowed me to serve as President and Vice President of various student organizations,
including Caribbean Student Association and Women’s Empowerment Network. In these roles I
discovered my side interest for cultivating creative art spaces and experiences.
In addition to my leadership roles, I worked in Student Admissions, served as a Teacher Assistant,
and was a Freshman Orientation Leader. I even obtained a position on campus as Director of our
Bridge Program for students all over the world interested in attending Pace University. My
experience at Pace allowed me to diversify my communication skills and establish a new network of
connections. Thanks to the college credits I earned at Banneker through programs like College Now, I
graduated from Pace in just three years. I immediately transitioned into teaching high school English
while completing my Master’s in Secondary English Education at CUNY Brooklyn College. Over the
years, I’ve taken on additional responsibilities, such as overseeing the National Honor Society (at a
previous school I taught at), coaching a cheer team, and coordinating student activities and alumni
events. In 2022, I earned my School Building and District Leadership certifications from the College
of St. Rose, achieving my third degree and solidifying my commitment to education.
How did BBACD impact your life?
Banneker shaped me into the bold, courageous woman I am today. It taught me to use my voice
unapologetically and to embrace my passions, identity, and gifts. Through its vibrant school culture,
inspiring teachers, and supportive peers, Banneker instilled in me a deep appreciation for my
community and its legacy, as well as helped me define the woman I aspired to be. The lessons I
learned at Banneker continue to guide my personal and professional journey.
Accomplishments and Future Plans?
Some of my proudest accomplishments include curating event experiences for students and emerging
entrepreneurs, coaching and mentoring singers and dancers, and fostering environments that celebrate
creativity and achievement. Additionally, receiving the Superintendent Award Certificate of
Recognition two years in a row, 2018 and 2019. My future aspirations include thriving as a principal,
expanding my event-planning endeavors on a larger scale, and possibly serving in the
Superintendent’s cabinet or at the state level within the Department of Education. I remain committed
to using my talents to uplift others and create transformative
