District Mission

BKNHS will operationalize the Pedagogy of Critical Love by being data-driven, building collective efficacy, and using an asset-based lens to ensure that each student is provided with loving, inclusive learning communities where they can pursue their passions, achieve academic excellence and economic freedom.

District Vision

Each student will be provided with a loving, inclusive learning community where they can pursue their passions, achieve academic excellence and economic freedom by graduating within four years, college- and career-ready, highly qualified to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and be creative to persist as global citizens.

2025-26 District Goals

Goal 1: (Priority 4)  By June 2026, BKNHS will address Priority 4: All students graduate college and career ready and have a strong plan and pathway to economic security with the following SMART Goals: the Advanced Course Enrollment for all Students will increase 3% from 74% to 77% & the 1:1 College and Career Advising Session for All Students will Increase by 6% from 89% to 95% ( with comparable increase for subgroups of STH & SWD as measured by STARS and Insight; the number of schools offering the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) to all students will Increase by @ from 18 to 20, as measured by Office of Multilingual Learners (OML) reports.

Goal 2: (Priority 1 & 3) By June 2026, all BKNHS will provide student learning experiences that are literacy-based, culturally responsive and substaining, including standards-aligned curricula with formative assessments for progress monitoring,differentiated to meet students needs, and intergrates highly impactful instructional practices resulting in a increase in the average district Regents scores for all students, of 3-7 points for ELA and Algebra 1. 

Goal 3: (Priority 3) By June 2026, all BKNHS schools will expand their family involvement and communication opportunities through collaboration and partnership with community stakeholders, empowering parents to be supporters, monitors, and advocates to sustain and advance student academic outcome and personal success, As a result, the NYC School Survey family responses will reflect a 2-percentage point increase in affirmative responses regarding school events & communication with teachers. By June 2026, enrollment at our 5 smaller school communities will increase by 5%.

Goal 4: (Priority 2, Attendance, Chronic Absenteeism)  By 2026, all BKNHS will provide a holistic instructional program in which all students have access to opportunities that are meaningful, inform purpose, inspire activism, and are all  aligned to support viable college and career pathways post high school. School stakeholders will partner to organize systems and structure to ensure an emotionally and physically safe learning environment to effectively engage students which result in a decrease in high level infractions (level 4/5) by 3%, reduce repeat suspensions by 2%, increase student connectedness by 5%, increase attendance by 2% and reduce chronic absenteeism by 3%.  

2025-26 DCEP Goals

Priority 1: All Students learn to read well

  •  By June 2026, literacy for All Students will improve, as measured by a 5pt Increase, from 68.7 to 73.7, of district average score on the NYS ELA Regent exam results. 
  • By June, 2026, literacy for students with Disabilities (SWD) will improve, as measured by a 3-5 point increase in the district average score, from 57.37% to 60.37 – 62.37% on the NYS ELA Regents Exam. 
  •  By June 2026, the percentage of MLs/ELLs who make at or above average MAP growth will increase from 54.4% to 57.4%, as measured by New Visions Portal. 
  • By June 2026, the district percentage of students in the 16th percentile will show a decrease from 19% to 17% (from 5100 students to 4900 students) according to MAP screener data.
 

Priority 2: All Students are physically and emotionally safe

  •  By June, 2026, physical and mental wellness for All Students will improve, as measured by a 3% Decrease, in the number of Level 4-5 incidents across targeted locations: classroom,hall,staircase, and cafeteria from 966 to 937 , per the Power B; Online Occurrence Reporting System (OORS). 
  • By June, 2026, physical and mental wellness for All Students will improve, as measured by a 2% Decrease, in Repeat suspensions from 26% to 24% per the insight; Online Occurrence Reporting System (OORS) reports. 
  • By June, 2026, physical and mental wellness for All Students will improve, as measured by a 5% Increase, in percentage of positive students response to the question “there is time at school to talk about feelings and emotions” from 67% to 72%, per the NYC School Survey results. 
 

Priority 3: All Students have a high-quality academic experience 

  • By June 2026, the district average Algebra l Regents score for all students will increase by 3- 7 points,from 50.08 to 62.08 – 66.08. 
  • By June 2026, the district average score will increase by 3 – 5 points from 53.97%  to 56.97% – 62.37%, for Students with  Disabilities (SWD), as measured by NYS Algebra l Exam Results. 
  • By June, 2026, to strengthen the quality of implementation o district IEPs for all students with disabilities,alignment of IEP-recommended services across SESIS and STARS will increase by 1% from 95% to 96%, for Students with Disabilities (SWD), as measured by Provision of Services on Power Bi.   • BY June 2026, the percentage of MLs/ELLs fully served by all five layers of STARS programming will increase by 1 % from 92.3% to 93.3% as measured by Power BI reports. 
  • Brooklyn North will address Priority 3: All students have a high-quality academic experience with the following SMART Goal: By June 2026, the pass rate on Algebra l Regents will Increase by 3-7% from 32% to 35-39%, for Hispanic Students,as measured by NYS Algebra Regents Exam Results.
  • BKNHS will address Priority 3: All students have a high quality academic experience with the following SMART Goal : By June 2026, the percentage of MLs/ ELLs fully served by all five layers of STARS programming will increase by 1% from 92.3% to 93.3%, as measuring by Power BI reports
 
 

Priority 4: All students graduate college and career ready have a strong plan and pathway to economic security

  • By June 2026, the average percentage of families choosing one of our 5 smallest schools will Increase by 5 percentage points, from 829 to 870 as measured by enrollment.
  • By June 2026, the percentage of families in BKNHS schools responding affirmatively that they engaged with teachers about their child’s performance will Increase by 2 percentage points from 70 to 72 as measured by NYC School Family Survey.
 
 

Attendance & Chronic Absenteeism

  • By June 2026, the overall attendance for All Students will increase by 2%, from 88% to 90%, as measured by the Insight.
  • By June 2026, the Percentage of Chronically Absent Students for All Students will increase by 3%, from 32% to 29%, as measured by the Insight Chronic Absenteeism Reports

2025-26 District instructional Priorities

Priority 1: Students learn in welcoming, 21st century, technology infused, classroom environments in order to ensure their SEL needs are addressed and that they feel seen, heard and affirmed.

Priority 2: Students have access to standards-aligned curriculum that is consistent in its learning targets and provides a purpose for learning that is relevant to their cultural backgrounds and lived experiences and emphasizes joy.

Priority 3: Student needs are identified through a continuous cycle of collaborative analysis of assessment data in order to reflect, track progress and set goals.

Priority 4: Students engage with differentiated tasks/assessments that are aligned to learning targets and emboldened literacy skill development in order to independently demonstrate mastery with knowledge and skills.
